Because every client and situation is unique, Skyland Trail provides up-front financial counseling for each client and family. A number of private insurance companies cover Skyland Trail services; however, as with other health treatment, insurance does not typically cover the entire cost of the program or the recommended length of stay for a full recovery. Total costs depend on the level of care required and the number of days needed to complete treatment. Please note that Skyland Trail does not accept Medicare or Medicaid.
Engagement Incentive Program
We know from more than 20 years of experience that active engagement in treatment is vital to each client's success. Our unique Engagement Incentive Program rewards clients who fully participate in their treatment with reductions in treatment costs. Our treatment team evaluates each client and assigns an engagement score. Clients who meet the criteria receive a 5 percent discount on the following month's billing statement. For each month thereafter, continued engagement increases the discount by 5 percent to a maximum of 20 percent. The Engagement Incentive Program only applies to the self pay portion of a client's account. Clients who are using health insurance must pay the co-insurance or co-pays required by their insurance plan.
Financial Assistance Program
Through the generosity of Skyland Trail donors and friends we offer a financial assistance program to help clients and families who meet need-based financial criteria. While we ask all clients to cover the costs of at least a portion of their treatment, the Skyland Trail Board of Directors has committed to distributing $1 million through our Financial Aid and Engagement Incentive programs every year to help clients stay at Skyland Trail for the full recommended length of their recovery program. The application process consists of an application and a personal financial statement from the guarantor(s) – those who guarantee payment of the treatment fees – as well as submission of the guarantor’s tax returns from the previous three years. After a thorough review, financial assistance awards are granted by a board committee.

Program Costs and Fees
For successful recovery, we encourage clients to participate in treatment for the length of stay recommended by our treatment team. While our average length of stay is four to six months, it varies widely and is based on the individual client’s progress.Total costs depend on the level of care required and the number of days needed to complete treatment.
Skyland Trail accepts payment with Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express as well as personal checks. We offer financing options for families and clients through a third party vendor.

Skyland Trail is in network with several Managed Care Organizations: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cameron & Associates, Cigna, Magellan, United Behavioral Health and Value Options. We do not accept Medicaid or Medicare.
If Skyland Trail is out of network with a client’s insurance provider, we ask that clients pay for services directly. We will provide clients who pay privately with invoices that they can submit to their insurance provider to seek reimbursement. We cannot guarantee reimbursement, and, aside from providing invoices, we are unable to participate in transactions between clients and out-of-network insurance providers.

Insurance companies determine eligibility for behavioral health treatment based on medical necessity. It is imperative that the client, family, and/or guarantor, as well as our admissions team, are aware of the criteria applied by your insurance plan.
