Family Orientation
Providing Support and Education for Those with Loved Ones in Recovery
Effective and comprehensive treatment of our clients is the central goal of our work at Skyland Trail. With this in mind, we realize that part of providing care for our clients is providing care and education to those who have been sources of support outside of our program. Family members have a challenging task when a loved one is in recovery.
While clients are engaged in the very difficult work of healing and developing new skills, their families are often growing and changing to better support the client's progress. Often this includes the development of new roles or skills for the family member. Family members are able to accomplish these tasks when they are well informed and can anticipate the need to learn new approaches and to practice new behaviors.
Through our Family Orientation, we hope to answer your questions about mental illness and recovery, both in general terms and specifically for clients at Skyland Trail. Our goal is to welcome you to Skyland Trail and to help you feel prepared for the challenges and improvements ahead. We also hope to help you further define your role as a key supporter of the recovery process.
Family involvement is a crucial factor in the recovery process and families are strongly encouraged to participate in this one-day orientation, generally held within a month after a client's admission to Skyland Trail.
The orientation includes education on various topics, including family advocacy, clinical services, and current topics within the mental health field. In addition, families will receive information on Skyland Trail's new Family Therapy program and the family's role in the recovery process.
Family Orientations are typically held the last Friday of each month and last all day. If you are interested in attending, please call our Admissions Department at 404-315-8333.
