Skyland Trail to host 12th annual ‘Arts in the Garden’ May 7

Atlanta (February 23, 2010) - Skyland Trail will host its 12th annual ‘Arts in the Garden' celebration on May 7 at the mental health treatment center's Health and Education Center on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta.
Held each May during Mental Health Awareness Month, ‘Arts in the Garden' provides Skyland Trail's clients and other consumers of mental health services in the Atlanta area a chance to showcase creative talents through visual and performing arts. The day is filled with festivities throughout the Skyland Trail gardens, and attendees experience hands-on workshops, demonstrations, art exhibits, music and dance performances, plant and art sales, a silent auction, and mental health education.
‘Arts in the Garden' is free of charge and takes place from 10 am through 3 pm. For a charge of $5, attendees may join the artists for lunch. In 2009, over 500 people attended ‘Arts in the Garden' and the event has become one of the most recognizable community gatherings for reducing the negative stigma surrounding mental illness.
"Arts in the Garden is always a fantastic day, and not just for those of us at Skyland Trail, but for everyone affiliated with the mental health industry in our city," said Skyland Trail President Beth Finnerty. "This event was created in an effort to bring people from around the community in to Skyland Trail to see the talents of our clients. Eventually, other organizations began coming in and participating, and the event has become one big celebration for the Atlanta community. It's one of my favorite days of the year."
