Psychological Assessment Services
Skyland Trail is pleased to offer comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessment services to adults. These services are conducted at the Health and Education Center (HEC) on North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta.
Psychological assessment can be used to gather information about educational, social, and everyday functioning, as well as identifying areas requiring therapeutic services. Testing can help to bring clarity to an individual's diagnosis and abilities including, but not limited to:
- Evaluating cognitive functions for strengths and weaknesses
- Assessing the presence of age-related cognitive disorders
- Evaluating for the presence of learning disabilities
- Examining an individual's career interests and aptitude to aid in career placement or with the Vocational Services Program
- Clarifying a previous diagnosis
Psychological assessments are performed on the Skyland Trail campus by Aaron Kilts, Psy.D. Dr. Kilts' expertise is in diagnosing psychotic spectrum disorders, mood disorders, and evaluating for the presence of co-occurring cognitive impairment.
A client can expect to take part in one or more of the following activities: an interview, pencil-and-paper questionnaires, interactive tasks that measure performance on various cognitive functions, and projective measures of personality.
Additionally, family members and mental health professionals involved in the client's care may be asked to participate in the assessment by filling out questionnaires and taking part in interviews.
The length of the assessment varies depending on the referral questions. However, most assessments typically require three to seven hours.
Following the assessment, the results are used to generate a psychological report which documents assessment findings and treatment recommendations. A copy of the report is given to the client, and with the client's consent can be shared with others involved in their treatment. The report is available approximately three to six weeks following testing.
