Therapeutic
Recreation
Research shows that therapeutic recreation makes a positive contribution to one's overall health and well
being. In addition to providing avenues for exercise and self-expression, therapeutic recreation also provides
the opportunity for individuals to interact, take risks, develop self-esteem, establish life roles, and learn
new skills in a safe, structured, non-threatening environment.
Participation in
the day treatment program:
Skyland Trail encourages individuals to participate in meaningful recreation and leisure activities. The
therapeutic recreation staff educates individuals about, community, recreation, and leisure resources in order for
them to pursue their personal interests when they transition from Skyland Trail into the community. Our community
integration class takes individuals out in the community using public transportation.
Individuals are able to enhance their current skills and develop new skills for daily living and independence
while engaging in real life situations. Other therapeutic recreation classes include team sports,
team building, goal setting, life skills, task completion, sit down aerobics, problem solving techniques,
and wood working.
