Benefits of Laughter Chairs Share About Upcoming Event
October 13, 2015
Our 18th Annual Benefits of Laughter will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015. This exciting event serves as our signature fundraiser. This year, comedian Mike Birbiglia will entertain friends of Skyland Trail as they come together for a night of celebration. Proceeds support the financial aid program and unique therapeutic programs like art, music, and horticulture therapy, vocational services and pastoral counseling. The event is organized by a volunteer committee. The 2015 event chairs are Beth Park and Andrea Montag.
Beth and Andrea talk about their involvement with Skyland Trail and the upcoming Benefits of Laughter event.
What makes Benefits of Laughter a unique fundraising event?
Beth: No other event that I can think of provides such fun entertainment! It’s a lovely format where you have a perfect length cocktail hour, then dinner with entertainment that makes everyone laugh! We also learn a more about Skyland Trail and have the opportunity to help out financially and support clients in their recovery. It is a perfect week day evening event.
Andrea: Benefits of Laughter is an evening of serious fun where we get together as a community, sit back and laugh while supporting a critical need - care and research for mental illness.
Why would you encourage someone to attend or sponsor Benefits of Laughter?
Beth: Because it is so much fun! Make it an annual event - something to look forward to each year with friends. And for the sponsors, Benefits of Laughter is a great opportunity to demonstrate support for improved mental wellness and the Atlanta community.
Andrea: Benefits of Laughter has proven to be one of the most popular and enjoyable events in the city. It’s a sold out night for guests to mingle and be entertained by some of the greatest comedians in the country. The event will continue to raise the bar with the addition of Mike Birbiglia - an audience favorite and one the hottest up and comers with recent appearances on Orange is the New Black and Amy Shumar's recent movie, TrainWreck.
What makes the 2015 Benefits of Laughter new or different?
Beth: As always, you can count on it being a seriously funny night. But I always meet new people and learn something new about mental health.
Andrea: All this fun helps Skyland Trail continue to shine as one of the top notch nonprofit mental health treatment organizations in the nation. And while the night is meant to be lighthearted and fun, the stigma against mental illness is strong and needs everyone's attention. We need more and better research, for the better we understand mental illness the better treatments we are able to provide. I invite you to join us for a serious night of fun!
