Benefits of Laughter Chairs Share About Upcoming Event
July 05, 2016
Our 19th annual Benefits of Laughter event will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at The St. Regis Atlanta. Guests will enjoy an evening of entertainment by The Capitol Steps, an American political satire group. Proceeds support the financial aid program and unique therapeutic programs like art, music, and horticultural therapy; vocational services; and pastoral counseling.
Event chairs, Donna Davidson and Lorri McClain share about the upcoming fundraising event.
Why are you excited to be chair of Benefits of Laughter?
Donna: This event is very close to my heart, and I enjoy going every year. It is going to be a particularly great event this year since it is a political year – guests will enjoy the American political satire group, The Capitol Steps. Laughter really is the best medicine. This event gives people the opportunity to spend an evening being entertained and inspired.
Lorri: Benefits of Laughter is one of my favorite events to attend every year. The event is fun and enjoyable to attend. You come away from the event entertained and happy, knowing that you supported an organization that is really important and helped people on the path to recovery.
What do you think people come away with? Why do people come back every year?
Donna – Benefits of Laughter creates awareness and helps break down the stigma surrounding mental illness. It feels good to be part of a community coming together to show support for mental health and the individuals and families who are struggling.
Lorri – There are so many great causes to support. Mental illness is a global issue that affects so many people. We all know someone who is affected by mental illness. By attending this event, people are helping break down the stigma while supporting a great cause.
