Community Event Celebrates Mental Health Month and Raises Awareness
May 08, 2017
Atlanta, GA – On Friday, May 5, 2017, over 600 guests enjoyed the 17th annual Arts in the Garden event at Skyland Trail. Individuals filled the gardens and enjoyed the many talents of individuals with mental illness through visual arts and performances.
Guests from around the community shopped at 26 local venders with items ranging from fine art paintings to jewelry to hand-made dyed scarves and hand crafted candles. Throughout the day, visitors listened to live music on the main stage with performers including the Community Friendship, Inc. (CFI) Choir, Youth Villages Inner Harbour Drummers, Trenchtown and the Skyland Trail Alumni Band. Guests also enjoyed art demonstrations, an art gallery, plant sale, silent auction and a cake walk featuring 32 cakes donated by the Skyland Trail Associates.
Arts in the Garden is an event organized by the adjunctive therapies program at Skyland Trail, including horticultural, process art, product art, music, and recreational therapy. Led by caring professionals who are experts in their fields, adjunctive group sessions help clients find new ways to express their thoughts and emotions, learn new skills, build confidence, and interact with their peers and the community.
