Working with Parents as an Adolescent Therapist

Learning Objectives:

  • Identify methods by which to engage and build a strong relationship with the parents from the start while also keeping your integrity and work with their kids in therapy a sacred one.
  • Utilize techniques that establish boundaries and structure with the parents in the context of therapy.
  • Recognize when to bring parents into the therapy session.
  • Appreciate the complexities and legalities of confidentiality by utilizing scenarios.

Brief Description:
This workshop is designed for therapists who work with clients who are adolescents or young adults. It will assist therapists in formulating the therapy work to involve parents in a healthy and functional way. Methods for enhancing and informing your clinical work will assist in lessening the feelings of being confused, overwhelmed and/or unsure of what the working relationship with the parents should be. It will be a fun and highly interactive workshop that will leave attendees feeling more secure about their working relationships with parents.
