Arts in the Garden

Arts in the Garden is an annual event held the first Friday of May that showcases the talents of individuals living with mental illness. Visit Arts in the Garden to:

  • hear musical and spoken word performances
  • learn from art demonstrations
  • purchase gifts and treasures from the artists market and greenhouse plant sale
  • visit the artist gallery to see works for local artists
  • learn more about mental health services available in the community, and 
  • gain a better understanding of the impact that the arts and horticulture can have in improving mental health.

2018 Arts in the Garden Review

On Friday, May 4, 2018, over 700 guests enjoyed the 18th annual Arts in the Garden event at Skyland Trail. Individuals filled the gardens and enjoyed the many talents of individuals with mental illness through visual arts and performances.

Guests shopped from 30 local artists and vendors with items including jewelry, pottery, fine art paintings and hand-crafted candles. Visitors also enjoyed listening to live music on the main stage with performers including Cindy Wooten; Kim Armstrong; Youth Villages, Inner Harbour Drummers; Stephen Reynolds; the Druid Hills Billy’s; and the Skyland Trail Band. Throughout the gardens, guests enjoyed wheel-thrown pottery, basket weaving and spinning demonstrations as well as an art gallery, plant sale and a cake walk featuring 25 cakes donated by the Skyland Trail Associates.
