Arts in the Garden

Arts in the Garden is an annual event held at Skyland Trail with presentations of visual and performing arts saluting the successful recovery of individuals with mental illness. Arts in the Garden celebrates mental health month by giving consumers of mental health services the opportunity to display their art in order to educate the community about mental illness and to reduce stigma. Visitors to Arts in the Garden to experience workshops, demonstrations, exhibits, performances, plant and art sales, treasure sale, storytelling and mental health education.

Arts in the Garden takes place on the Skyland Trail main campus from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join us in the gardens to experience art demonstrations and exhibits and musical performances. Shop at the artists market and plant sale to find unique gifts for your friends and loved ones ... or yourself. 

Admission is free. Open to the public. 

Join us for a fun day in the gardens, and you'll see that individuals living with mental illness are more than just their diagnosis. Whether artists, musicians, or poets ... or accountants, executives, or chefs, Arts in the Garden celebrates the strengths and talents of all individuals living and thriving with a mental illness.

Information for Artists

We invite consumers of mental health services with artistic talents to participate in Arts in the Garden by renting a booth in our Artist Market to sell your art or displaying up to two pieces of artwork in our Art Exhibit. We also offer limited opportunities for performance art including music, dance and spoken word. For more information, complete the appropriate form below or contact Shelley Danser at 678-686-5956 or

Sell your art at the Artist Market. Individual artists or organizations can rent a 3x6 ft. table to sell their art. The cost is $30 for one table (each additional table is $30). 

Register for artist market

Display your art at the Art Exhibit. Each person may submit up to two original pieces of artwork to be exhibited. These works will be displayed but will not be for sale. There are no fees to enter.

2017 Arts in the Garden Review

On Friday, May 5, 2017, over 600 guests enjoyed the 17th annual Arts in the Garden event at Skyland Trail. Individuals filled the gardens and enjoyed the many talents of individuals with mental illness through visual arts and performances.

Guests from around the community shopped at 26 local venders with items ranging from fine art paintings to jewelry to hand-made dyed scarves and hand crafted candles. Throughout the day, visitors listened to live music on the main stage with performers including the Community Friendship, Inc. (CFI) Choir, Youth Villages Inner Harbour Drummers, Trenchtown and the Skyland Trail Alumni Band. Guests also enjoyed art demonstrations, an art gallery, plant sale, silent auction and a cake walk featuring 32 cakes donated by the Skyland Trail Associates.
