How to Refer
WE VALUE YOUR REFERRAL. Please call our admissions team at 866-504-4966 or complete the referral form below. An admissions counselor can answer your questions about how our residential treatment, day treatment, or outpatient programs may meet the clinical needs of your adult or adolescent client.
Admissions Criteria
ADULTS 18 AND OLDER
Skyland Trail welcomes adults ages 18 and older with a primary mood, thought, or anxiety disorder. Many clients have complex diagnoses, such as co-occurring substance use or co-occurring borderline personality disorder.
ADOLESCENTS AGES 14 – 17
Skyland Trail welcomes adolescents ages 14 to 17 with a mood or anxiety disorder. Many clients struggle with impulsive behaviors and emotion regulation.
Programs for Adults
Our mental health programs are organized by levels of care. Residential psychiatric treatment is our most intensive level of care. Day treatment, intensive outpatient, and outpatient programs gradually provide less intensive staff support and require clients to use skills more independently.
Clients complete a psychiatric assessment as part of the admissions process. The admissions team uses results from the assessment to match each client with the level of care that best meets the client's needs.
Residential Treatment
Residential treatment usually is the best level of care for individuals leaving a hospital or locked psychiatric acute care facility.
Located in Atlanta, our residential campuses are unlocked, voluntary facilities. Clients receive 24/7 staff support and private client rooms with private bathrooms.
Day Treatment
Most clients admit to Residential Treatment and step down to Day Treatment. Some clients may admit directly to Day Treatment if they are clinically appropriate and currently reside in Metro Atlanta. Transitional housing is available for eligible clients stepping down from residential treatment.
Intensive Outpatient Program
Our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is available as a step down from Day Treatment (PHP). Clients continue to participate in individual and group therapy for four hours each day. Clients may attend for 5 days a week and then 3 days a week as they transition back to independent living. Transitional housing is available for eligible IOP clients.

Program Fees, Insurance, and Financial Aid
Skyland Trail adult programs are in-network with most major private insurance providers. As a nonprofit organization, Skyland Trail is able to offer financial aid awards. Financial aid may reduce private pay costs for eligible client families. Learn more about program fees and insurance >
Programs for Adolescents
Psychiatric residential treatment and day treatment programs for adolescents ages 14 to 17 provide expert mental health care and a supportive environment. Teens learn skills to manage symptoms and change unhealthy behaviors, and families learn how to support their adolescent through appropriate boundaries, validation, and communication.
Residential Treatment
Located in Atlanta, our adolescent campus offers around-the-clock staff supervision and support. Teens receive private bedrooms with private bathrooms. Welcoming spaces encourage continued school participation, peer connections, and family engagement.
Day Treatment
Most clients admit to the 12-week residential treatment program and then step down to the Day Treatment level of care (also called partial hospitalization or PHP). Some clients may admit directly to Day Treatment if clinically appropriate.
