Day Treatment

Day Treatment Program for Adolescents

Skyland Trail's mental health day treatment program for teens in Atlanta, also known as the partial hospitalization program (PHP), is offered as a step-down from adolescent residential treatment. Adolescent clients who meet clinical criteria may admit directly to day treatment.

Day Treatment as a Step Down from Residential Treatment

Day treatment, sometimes called partial hospitalization or PHP, may be an appropriate next step for clients who have completed 12 weeks of adolescent residential treatment, are ready to return home, and who need continued structure and therapeutic support while making the transition.

Day treatment clients come to the J. Rex Fuqua Campus Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. The estimated day treatment length of stay is four to six weeks.

Day Treatment families have access to 24/7 on-call support if concerns arise outside of treatment hours.

Structured Daily Schedule

Day treatment clients continue to work individually with their primary counselor and psychiatrist and to participate in group therapy and activities. An advanced daily core group dedicated to day treatment clients helps these teens explore using skills in the new situations they are now encountering at home and in their communities.

Weekly family therapy is a continued requirement. Family therapy is conducted remotely via zoom.

Day Treatment and Academic Services

As with residential treatment, day treatment clients may not participate in synchronous learning at their school of enrollment during treatment hours. Clients must be able to complete assignments during hours designated by Skyland Trail for academic services or while at home.

Adolescent day treatment clients continue to receive academic support and services. Any partnerships established with schools during residential treatment remain in place throughout day treatment, and the education coordinator remains the school's primary point of contact. Clients enrolled in ADVANTAGES online school through Skyland Trail can continue their enrollment.

Accommodations & Transportation

Housing is not provided as part of the day treatment program. Adolescent day treatment clients must reside with a guardian or other family member in the Atlanta area. Families who do not live locally may want to consider identifying local temporary housing or accommodations.

Families must provide transportation for their adolescent to arrive between 8:15 and 8:45 AM and depart at 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Clients may not drive themselves.
