Virtual Benefits of Laughter 2020

While COVID-19 has changed the way we can come together, we still have plenty to celebrate this year. Join us virtually as we celebrate the strength of clients and families living with mental illness. Donations to Benefits of Laughter will provide the necessary financial resources for families in crisis and will help Skyland Trail achieve its important mission.

The Skyland Trail Associates Spring Luncheon is a unique annual fundraising event to support our mission. The event is organized by the Skyland Trail Associates, an impressive volunteer group of Atlanta women leaders. Scheduled for March 2020, the luncheon was canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful for the many sponsors and patrons who fulfilled their pledge of support for the event, helping us raise $66,150. Scheduled keynote speaker, Margaret Sisson, founder of Riley's Wish, recorded a conversation with Skyland Trail Medical Director of Professional Services, Dr. Ben Hunter, which was shared with Skyland Trail Associates and others to provide mental health education, an important feature of the annual event.

Skyland Trail hosted the tenth annual Southern Shindig virtually. Through sponsorships, ticket sales, and silent auction, more than $44,000 was raised for Skyland Trail’s financial aid and treatment programs. Virtual attendees enjoyed stand-up comedy from Aaron Weber. Participants also enjoyed and participated in bidding on silent auction items ranging from jewelry and art to unique experiences at local restaurants and much more, all generously donated by companies and individuals in the community.

In fall 2019, more than 500 guests attended Benefits of Laughter at The St. Regis Atlanta, raising more than $1.16 million for mental health treatment services at Skyland Trail—the most raised in the history of the signature Skyland Trail fundraising event. As part of the program, Sharon S., a Skyland Trail graduate, shared her personal story. Guests also enjoyed a comedic performance by Emmy winner and Grammy nominee Wayne Brady. Many guests participated in the interactive, improvised show.
