We often are seeking licensed clinical social workers (LCSW), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT), licensed professional counselors (LAPC and LPC), certified peer specialists (CPS), mental health techs, and individuals with a master's in social work (MSW). Full-time group counselor, day coach, care coordinator, primary therapist, and admissions positions often are available.

Skyland Trail is a nonprofit mental health residential treatment organization for adults and adolescents located in Atlanta, Georgia. For more than 30 years, we have been inspiring people with mental illness to thrive through a holistic program of evidence-based psychiatric treatment, integrated medical care, research, and education. Skyland Trail is accredited by The Joint Commission.

Mental health professionals are a vital part of our clinical team who deliver care to clients seeking treatment for mood, anxiety, and thought disorders. Skyland Trail is a voluntary, unlocked facility. Skyland Trail campuses include gardens, private patient rooms, and common rooms that provide a therapeutic, healing environment for our clients and families.

Though struggling with their mental health disorders, Skyland Trail patients have entered treatment voluntarily and are engaged in their treatment program. After an average length of stay of 2-4 months in treatment, patients often return to living independently and pursuing school, career, or family goals.

The Role of Mental Health Professionals at Skyland Trail

Mental health professionals at Skyland Trail play a key role in the recovery of our clients. These professionals in our residential mental health programs handle an array of tasks that assist our clients in their growth and recovery. Roles include ensuring clients are attending scheduled groups, providing skills coaching for clients when needed, writing goal-directed and individualized treatment plans, and understanding and utilizing evidence-based models and theories of behavioral health to conceptualize cases and help clients develop coping skills.

Mental health therapy positions at our residential mental health facilities are great for professionals with strong interpersonal skills, crisis management skills, and a passion for working with a wide range of individuals and families.

Group Counselor (MSW/LCSW)

This full-time mental health therapy position is responsible for facilitating client groups throughout the treatment day. Groups may include psychoeducation, peer support, skill development, or process groups.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field (i.e.; Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.) and/or two (2) + years of clinical experience in the mental health field.
  • Prior group facilitation skills required

Day Services Coach (CPS)

This full-time mental health support position is responsible for facilitating client engagement in treatment. Day coaches collaborate with the clinical team to identify and address issues, monitor for interpersonal challenges, and ensure a safe and appropriate treatment environment.

This position manages crises effectively and demonstrates competence in supportive strategies, de-escalation, observation, and other forms of clinical support.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Peer Specialist- Preferred
  • Prior experience in a peer support role for a primary psychiatric treatment program preferred

Care Coordinator (MSW/LCSW)

This full-time mental health professional position provides ongoing case management and discharge planning. During treatment, care coordinators help ensure that all pieces of the client's treatment plan are working together. They serve as the primary point of contact for families. To help clients prepare for discharge, care coordinators help link clients to resources and services and coordinate referrals to outpatient providers.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field (i.e. Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.) and/or two (2)+ years of clinical experience in the mental health field
  • Prior case management experience required

Admissions Counselor (MSW)

This mental health professional is responsible for helping clients, families, and referring professionals navigate the admissions process. They work with the admitting psychiatrist to ensure that admitting clients meet clinical eligibility requirements. They help ensure that clients are matched with the appropriate specialized treatment team based on their diagnoses, symptoms, and treatment goals. Admissions counselors answer intake calls, complete clinical assessments, review medical records, conceptualize potential admitting clients, and lead tours of our campuses.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Master in Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Counseling, or related field
  • Licensed or Licensed eligible preferred

Primary Therapists (MSW/LCSW)

This mental health professional therapist position provides individual, one-on-one therapy to a limited caseload of adult or adolescent clients. Primary therapists work with their clients to develop individual treatment plans and recommend additional services and supports as needed. They provide progress updates to families. Primary therapists lead a small number of groups throughout the week, typically a daily core group focused on a specific modality like CBT or DBT.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field (i.e.; Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.).
  • Prior training/experience with Dual Diagnosis group and/or substance abuse counseling preferred
  • DBT experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a primary psychiatric treatment program
  • License preferred

Residential Counselor

Residential Counselor

Residential counselors provide supervision, coaching, and support services to adult and adolescent clients. These mental health support positions may conduct residential groups, facilitate evening/weekend client activities and social programming, help clients with activities of daily living (ADLs). Residential counselors at our adolescent program support adolescent clients throughout the day as they move between groups and activities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a related field, (i.e. Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.) and/or (2) years of clinical experience in the mental health field
  • Preferred Qualifications- Masters Degree in a related field (i.e. Counseling, Social Work, Education, Psychology, etc.)
  • Licensed Clinician, License-eligible clinician, or working towards clinical licensure
