Associates Spring Luncheon Raises Over $140,000, Advances Community Mental Health Education

Atlanta, GA – Skyland Trail, a nationally recognized nonprofit residential mental health treatment organization for adults and adolescents, recently hosted the 17th annual Associates Spring Luncheon. Dr. C. Neill Epperson served as the keynote speaker for the event and discussed the intersection of female reproductive health over the life span and mental health. In addition to advancing community education about an important mental health topic, the luncheon raised more than $140,000 to support Skyland Trail mental health treatment programs for individuals with mood, anxiety, and thought disorders.

The Skyland Trail Associates, a group of Atlanta women leaders, raises money to support Skyland Trail through the Associates Spring Luncheon and through membership and fundraising efforts throughout the year. Annually, at their fall meeting, Associates help select how the funds will be directed to enhance Skyland Trail psychiatric treatment programs.

Proceeds from the 2023 luncheon and Associates Fund were applied to improve campus accessibility. The funding is being used to ensure clients, staff and visitors who have mobility challenges can easily access and enjoy all of the treatment facilities, residential facilities, and therapeutic gardens on Skyland Trail campuses for adults and teens in Atlanta.

The 2024 Spring Associates Luncheon was co-chaired by Associates President Ruth Wellborn and Associates Vice President Juanita Markwalter. More than 400 guests attended the event at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta on Friday, March 15, 2024.

Keynote speaker Dr. Epperson is a Professor and the Robert Freedman Endowed Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Colorado School of Medicine-Anschutz Medical Campus, where she is also the Executive Director of the Helen E. and Arthur Johnson Depression Center.
