Help When We Needed It Most
Ginger, mother of an adult program graduate

“Our daughter was really struggling after a suicide attempt. She had been to a DBT program without much success. We were desperate to get her help for her bipolar disorder and anxiety. As we did our research on treatment programs, the biggest difference we found is that Skyland addresses the whole person – their physical, emotional, and nutritional needs. The admissions team also included the family and kept us informed. We felt like we were part of the process.
For the first few weeks after admission, we had some very rough days. Our daughter was not happy about needing to go to another program. As time went on, she embraced the program and did not want to leave when it came time to graduate.
While our daughter was doing her difficult work and introspection, we attended family therapy and were able to better understand her illness and perspective. We were given better ways to communicate and understand one another.
Today, our daughter is “doing life” again. She is working and going to school. Some days are better than others, but she is stable enough to handle the ups and downs of life. We are so grateful that Skyland Trail was available to us when we all needed it most. We believe that mental health should be available to all people and not just a privilege for few.”
“We really enjoyed participating in the Skyland Trail 5K Run/Walk this year as a way to give back, help others access treatment, and stay connected to the community.”
