“Skyland Trail was truly an unforgettable experience that has helped me feel like I can take on life and not let my mental illness hold me back!”

Liz T., a Skyland Trail graduate

When I was admitted to Skyland Trail, I was terrified. I had given up all hope that I could ever get better and get the help I needed for my depression and anxiety.

Throughout my time at Skyland Trail, I learned skills to deal with everyday stressors and coping skills for more stressful situations. With the help of my primary counselor, psychiatrist, and group leaders, I learned that I don’t have to focus on what happened to me in the past forever. I can move forwards and still live the life I want. I learned how to be confident in myself and that I am worth living. I am worthy of being happy. I never EVER would have believed that if it wasn’t for the care and kindness I received while in treatment. Not only were the staff great, but the other clients were as well. I felt truly loved and accepted by others and grew confident enough to drop the mask I’ve worn my whole life to be my authentic, true self. I still keep in contact with many of the other clients too!

I feel truly thankful that I got to be part of the music program as well, and learn that I love playing string instruments. I also learned that I love working with the horticulture team, and I was able to take care of the gardens in the month I stayed in the transitional living apartments.

Skyland Trail was truly an unforgettable experience that has helped me feel like I can take on life and not let my mental illness hold me back!
