Skyland Trail Granted New Adult Residential Mental Health Program License in Georgia

ATLANTA – Skyland Trail is proud to announce the licensure of the adult residential treatment program under Georgia’s new guidelines as an Adult Residential Mental Health Program (ARMHP). Skyland Trail is among the first programs to receive the new licensure, which recently was created and approved by the Georgia state legislature. (Skyland Trail previously was licensed as a personal care home, which was the available licensure in Georgia prior to 2025.) Skyland Trail played a pivotal role in shaping and advancing the legislation.

Skyland Trail anticipates that the new licensure will enable more clients to use in-network insurance benefits to cover a portion of treatment costs. Some plans outside of Georgia require the residential mental health program license for contracted services.

For patients and families, the ARMHP license allows them to compare ARMHP licensed programs, understanding that they all follow standardized protocols and procedures specifically tailored to the needs of adult clients in residential mental healthcare programs.

“We are honored to be among the first programs licensed under Georgia’s dedicated ARMHP licensure,” says Beth Finnerty, MBA, MHA, Skyland Trail president & CEO. “For clients and families, this licensure offers transparency, accountability, and expanded treatment options.”

As an ARMHP-licensed organization, Skyland Trail will receive state oversight and participate in regular reviews to ensure the adult treatment program is meeting patient care standards, protecting client rights, meeting staff continuing education expectations, and ensuring client health and safety. The Skyland Trail adult and adolescent treatment programs also are accredited by The Joint Commission.
