Family Orientation for Families of Adult Clients in Residential and Day Treatment

Families and primary supporters are essential for a client’s recovery from mental illness. Skyland Trail is a leader in helping families play a positive role, and also in providing support as they cope with a loved one’s illness.

Family Orientation is a one-day seminar designed to provide families of new clients practical information about the process and experience of recovery. Our goal is to welcome you to Skyland Trail and to help you feel more prepared for the challenges and improvements ahead.

Topics include:

  • Our continuum of care and how your loved one may move through it
  • Tips on how families can help a loved one recover
  • How we communicate with families
  • Programs and resources available to families

You will also have an opportunity to meet our staff, ask your questions and get to know other families.

Adult Programs Family Orientation Schedule

Family Orientation for our adult treatment programs is held each month from 9:00 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. eastern. Family Orientation takes place virtually through Zoom online meetings.

Thursday Night Family STEP

Please consider joining us for Family STEP the Thursday evening before Family Orientation. We offer a special hour of programming and networking for new families.

5:30-6:30 PM - For New Families: Overview of Terms and Concepts at Skyland Trail
Struggling with acronyms? Learning the level system? This session helps families understand the language of Skyland Trail and where to look for policies, education, and other resources throughout treatment. Bring questions you wish you had asked at admission or new questions you have formulated since.

6:30-8:00 PM - Support Group
Families are encouraged to join our regular weekly Family STEP program for a support group. Meet current and alumni family members. Learn what helped them most when their loved one started treatment and hear diverse perspectives on how to prepare for and navigate the weeks ahead.

Family STEP is offered through Zoom only.

Please contact STEP Facilitator, Shelley Danser at sdanser@skylandtrail.org or 678-686-5956 for more information about STEP.
