Staff Spotlight: Desiree Kemp, APC

Desiree Kemp, is a Primary Therapist at Skyland Trail adolescent program.
What is your favorite thing about working at Skyland Trail?
The genuine support and kindness I’ve received from team members, even across other departments. That can make all the difference coming into a new environment. Oh, and the absolute characters I’ve gotten to meet in the past few months — there’s hardly been a dull day!
What do you do when you’re not at work? Favorite hobbies, etc.
When I’m not being a couch potato… hiking! Last year for our anniversary, my husband and I spent the weekend in Smoky Mountain National Park where we hiked the longest trail we’ve ever done to date (Mount Le Conte – 11 miles roundtrip). The beautiful views were so worth it. I also enjoy playing video/ tabletop games, painting, and having a nice bonfire with friends when the temperature drops. Nothing beats a good s’more!
What is one place in Atlanta you think everyone should visit? Restaurant, museum, park, etc.
There’s a restaurant called The Consulate in Midtown that showcases cuisines from all around the world by highlighting a different culture each month. This month’s menu is Singaporean food, and the first time I ate there it was Filipino food (HAD to support my people). It’s a little on upscale side, but the atmosphere and quality of dishes make it a must-try. If you’re into comedy and/or improv, Dad’s Garage is also a great place to catch a last-minute show or join a group!
What’s a mantra or cheerleading statement you say for yourself or often share with others?
Two quotes I strive to live by:
“In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” – Unknown
“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.” – Maya Angleou
